FAQs

How will I know if I need to see a Psychologist?

You should consider consulting with a psychologist if you notice painful experiences happening in your life, often every week and sometimes every day, which cause distress or disturb your normal functioning at home, at work, or in your social life. You may have specific symptoms such as extreme fear, difficulty concentrating, or sad mood. These problems are not alleviated by normal medical treatment practiced by your physician. While there is no guarantee that a psychologist will be able to assist you, a consultation with a psychologist is recommended.

If I see a psychologist, does it mean I'm crazy?

This is a very common fear. It is not true. The great majority of people who see a psychologist for treatment are very sane and in no danger whatsoever of "losing their minds." Many people consult with a psychologist for assistance in dealing with problems of every day living, such as loss of employment.

What if someone finds out I'm seeing a psychologist?

Strict laws govern the practice of psychology. Confidentiality is one of the most carefully guarded rights of the client. Clients agree in advance with their signature to any disclosure of information about their case.

How long will therapy with Dr. Hutchison last?

Each session of therapy lasts for 50 minutes. Many clients attend once a week. In a crisis situation, a client may have two or three sessions a week. Clients who have been in therapy for several months may attend every other week. The amount of therapy needed varies with every client. On average, short-term therapy (6 to 10 sessions) is more typical than therapy lasting for a year or longer.

How much does it cost?

Dr. Hutchison's standard fee is $150.00 for a 50 minute session. This applies to therapy, hypnosis, and evaluations. Many insurance plans are accepted. Among the most well known are Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Humana, and United. Dr. Hutchison is a provider for Medicare and Medicaid. He handles insurance paperwork for clients, including filing claims. Payment of the standard fee or an insurance co-pay is received at the end of each session. Checks and cash are accepted (no credit cards).

Once I start therapy, am I locked into a big expense?

You can stop attending therapy at any time and for any reason. There is no down-payment or up-front investment of money. Dr. Hutchison will work with you to try to ensure you have a successful experience.
